On September 29, 2018, students from the global health program attended the 7th annual Global Health Conference: Human Rights and Peace in Ottawa.

Before starting the program, we received emails from McMaster containing various supplementary sources that would provide more information on global health and allow us to gain a better perspective. Among the information we received was details about upcoming events and conferences.

All the Global Health Symposium students went on their respective field visits for the day. In the afternoon, students had the opportunity to attend the alumni and networking events. In the evening, we were all invited to the Presidential dinner hosted by Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE).

Global Health Symposium May 2 - Daily Recap: Group Excursion!

Tuesday May 1st was excursion day for students at the Symposium! Students visited Karkala, and were mesmerized by the monument of Bahubali, a highly revered Jain deity, built during the Ganga dynasty in 981 AD. Students were also privileged to visit the Thousand Pillar Temple in Moodabidri.

Yesterday was an exciting day for the students! They had the opportunity to meet professionals who are working in the field related their policy cluster. After a plenary introduction, all groups had the chance to converse with each stakeholder for 45 minutes.

This weekend, students participated in the Annual Global Health Symposium Conference. During an intensive 2 days, they had the opportunity to share and receive feedback on their Master’s scholarly paper and thesis projects with their peers and faculty.

Global Health Symposium April 28 - Daily Recap: A Day of Cultural Workshops in Manipal

Yesterday morning, Global Health students had the opportunity to experience a taste of Indian culture and participate in a variety workshops organized by the Manipal symposium team! Students could pick and choose between yoga, traditional dance, cooking and an Indian philosophy lecture. We caught up with a few students and asked them to describe their experience!

Global Health Symposium April 25 - Daily Recap: Field Visit Preparation & the Dilemma Workshop

Yesterday students gathered into their respective policy clusters to create an observational plan, an interview guide and attend a dilemma workshop facilitated by faculty members. The observational plan involved a thorough literature search and creating a checklist containing things to observe when the students travel to their respective field placements today.

Yesterday morning, all Global Health students gathered in a lecture hall for Symposium Orientation. Six different topics will be explored in 24 different groups: Occupational Health, Environmental Health, Infectious Diseases, Mental Health, Traditional Health, and Reproductive and Child Health.
