The Global Health Office recently hosted the 12th International Interdisciplinary Summer Institute, welcoming a delegation of fifteen health care professionals from Thailand. The group, all from Praboromarajchanok Institute for Health Workforce Development (PIHWD), Ministry of Public Health, included a dentist, a pharmacist, educators, and nurses with specialties in midwifery, community health, and pediatrics.

The 2018 program was designed to provide the visitors with a comprehensive overview of McMaster’s innovative health sciences’ curriculum. The agenda included an exploration and demonstration of problem-based learning, an introduction to teaching modalities including the standardized patient program, use of simulation labs, and interprofessional learning and teaching perspectives.

Held annually, the institute is a learning exchange designed to advance participants’ knowledge in the area of health science education. It provides them with the opportunity to see problem-based learning in action, and to learn from experts from across health sciences at McMaster.

"This was a great learning opportunity in terms of teamwork, project management, and hospitality,” says Kai Fan, research analyst for the Global Health Office. “I am honored to have been a part of this academic and cultural exchange, and I’ve learned much about health professional education in Thailand and Canada."
