McMaster Strengthens Research Partnerships in Brazil

Brazilian delegation on McMaster's campus

August 9, 2016
McMaster continues to forge ties with post-secondary institutions in Brazil, sharing knowledge and innovative methods in medical education to advance research and action.

Recently, a group of university professors from Brazil’s Botucatu Medical School – UNESP (São Paulo) and the Faculty of Medicine at PUCMG - Pontificia Universidade Catolica (Minas Gerais) visited the McMaster campus for five days of training.

The Brazilian delegation gained new insights into research capacity building, meeting with several professors from McMaster, including MSc Global Health program coordinator Michael Ladouceur.

Ladouceur's presentation provided an overview of Health Science education with a focus on student-centred, interdisciplinary lifelong learning. "As a faculty member of the Global Health Program, it was a privilege to facilitate a lively discussion with an inquisitive Brazilian delegation about the benefits and challenges of small group, self-directed, problem-based learning," says Ladouceur.

McMaster partnerships with Brazilian universities to date have included the Science Without Borders and Mitacs Globalink programs.
