McMaster Global to showcase commitment to Sustainable Development Goals
McMaster Global – which will take place November 11 – 22 – is an annual university wide showcase of global engagement activities supporting the McMaster University vision and mission to make global engagement and knowledge generation an integral part of its identity and presence in Canada and the world.
This year’s showcase will highlight research, knowledge, panel discussions, events and activities targeting one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
McMaster has been recognized for its deep commitment to the development goals, including good health and well-being, decent work and economic growth, building sustainable cities and communities, achieving gender equity and revitalizing global partnerships.
The Global Health Office is involved in a number of McMaster Global activities, including:
- Holding an information session on Academics Without Borders (AWB), a Canada-based non-profit hosted at McMaster, which helps universities in the developing world enhance the quality of their programs and research. McMaster will welcome AWB’s executive director, Greg Moran, at the information session – Reaching Across Borders, Building a Brighter World – which will take place at Alumni Hall in the Great Hall, on Nov. 11 at 12 p.m.
- Hosting a screening of the documentary film Bending the Arc, in collaboration with Partners in Health Chapter (SPIHC). The screening will take place on Nov. 21 in HSC 1A5 at 6:30 p.m.
- Sponsoring a production of carried away on the crest of a wave, a powerful play by award-winning Canadian playwright David Yee that gives a glimpse into the impact the 2004 Earthquake in the Indian Ocean had on people’s lives. The play runs Nov. 7-16.
McMaster Global also includes International Education Week (IEW) as part of its global showcase. International Education Week, which runs this year from November 17 – 22, is held in over 100 countries around the world highlighting the importance international education plays in furthering our social, economic, and cultural well-being.
