Global Health faculty lend expertise in infectious disease research at McGill Summer Institute
Deborah DiLiberto, Global Health postdoctoral scholar and tutor in the MSc Global Health program, will be speaking at this year’s McGill Summer Institute in Infectious Diseases and Global Health, which takes place from June 15-22 in Montreal.
DiLiberto is involved in the Qualitative Methods in Global Infectious Diseases Research course, which covers the principles and application of qualitative methods in formative, operational, evaluation and policy research in tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and malaria. Participants will work in small groups to develop qualitative research protocols.
DiLiberto brings relevant experience to the table. She joined the Global Health program as after completing an interdisciplinary PhD in Public Health and MSc in Public Health in Developing Countries at the UK’s renowned London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Between degrees, she managed two studies exploring ways to improve malaria care in Uganda, the country with the world’s highest recorded incidence of the disease.
“The McGill Summer Institute is a great opportunity to focus on the invaluable role of qualitative methods in infectious disease research,” says DiLiberto. “I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences of conducting a critical qualitative analysis examining the context of a complex intervention to improve care for malaria – and how this work can help inform the design of more responsive health service interventions.”
The McGill Summer Institute invites internationally known faculty to share and discuss applicable new knowledge, and provides an opportunity to network with fellow global health professionals from around the world.
The unique format of short non-credit professional development courses attracts a diverse group of participants, from industry leaders to NGO’s, academics and researchers, and advocacy group members.
