Welcome and opening remarks: Susan Tighe, Provost, McMaster University
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. Today, the global goals are an increasingly popular framework and set of principles used by higher education institutions (HEIs) to inform their missions and transform aspirational goals into measurable and sustainable impacts. What is the role of HEIs, and in particular, international offices and programs, in advancing the UN 2030 agenda? What are the emerging practices to embed the UN SDGs into internationalization in higher education, and how are universities and colleges adopting and mobilizing the SDGs as part of their strategies? Join our distinguished panel of experts who will exchange ideas and experiences on this important topic, followed by a moderated discussion and Q&A.
