Annual student-run journal highlights global issues and research inspired by UN goals
The fifth issue of the student-led, open access journal Global Health: Annual Review (GHAR) is now online. From water and sanitation in Ghana to Canada’s COVID-19 response in marginalized communities, the articles demonstrate the diversity of global health research and explore the interplay between the biological, social, and physical factors that influence health and disease globally.

GHAR, which showcases research influenced by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), is transdisciplinary and collaborative by design, inviting submissions from global students, academics, and professionals from the McMaster community and beyond.
This year’s co-editors Nina Huynh and Suman Virdee, both graduates of the MSc Global Health program, say that the latest issue received the most submissions to date, as the editorial team expanded the submission criteria and modified the peer-review process.
“In addition to the wide range of articles we received, we were able to integrate artwork and photography that capture global issues as deeply as our articles,” says Virdee.
“I’m grateful to this year’s editorial team for their patience, perseverance, and creativity,” adds Huynh.
Additional editorial team members this year were Hunster Yang, Anna Socha, Alana Changoor, and Clara Zacharko, who are all MSc Global Health program graduates.
