Mission & Objectives

Our Mission

To build a partnership between Faculty of Health Sciences researchers, educators and clinicians, funding agencies and global development initiatives to commit university research and education to the service of people's health worldwide for the mutual benefit of science, health, clinical practice and human development.

Our Vision

To reinforce McMaster University's reputation in global health. With a vision for health equity, the work we do is aligned with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 goals, which are a call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and improve lives globally.

Goals & Objectives

Capacity building in higher education

The GHO works with universities around the world to strengthen capacity in health care research, education, and delivery.

University affiliations & innovative partnerships

We foster relationships with universities worldwide to share advances in knowledge, develop new programs and initiatives, and respond to the shifting global context. Through the Master of Science in Global Health program, we have formed a best practice model of collaboration in international higher education, with a network involving seven institutional partners. We recognize the responsibility we have as universities to develop solutions and prepare future innovators with the skills that will enable them to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals

Host international delegations & visiting scholars

The GHO builds and strengthens international relationships by engaging healthcare researchers, educators, and professionals in ongoing dialogue.
We welcome visitors from around the world to share their expertise and learn from ours.

Engage in international activities and targeted initiatives

McMaster University participates in global health care dialogue and education and develops targeted initiatives, hosting international events, establishing research centres and creating task forces and coalitions. One example is MacGlObAS - a collaboration between the GHO and the departments of Obstetrics/Gynecology, Anesthesia and Surgery.

Offer global health education events

We work to amplify the global health dialogue through events that speak to critical issues. We host guest speakers with different perspectives on global health, and provide opportunities for faculty from around the world to exchange ideas, share experiences, and learn about McMaster's educational methodologies.

International grant & contract submissions

The GHO assists departments within the FHS with the development of various grants and contract proposals to obtain funds for international research and educational projects.
